Why do chassidic men cut their hair short?

by Rabbi Naftali Silberberg

a. According to Kabbalah, hair should be as short as possible.

b. Long hair, and hair styles, normally stem from (and lead to) vanity. Chassidim try not to focus so much on their appearances (although it is obviously important to be neat and presentable).

c. Long hair can be a Halachic problem because it can constitute a separation between the head and the teffilin (see Be'ur Halachah on Orach Chayim, ch. 27).
