Is an illegitimate child a mamzer?

Rabbi Yossi Turk: Bienvenidos Welcome. Un minuto , ya lo atiendo. I'll be with you in a moment...

Raymond: Hi rabbi, i have a question. is a boy born of a single woman and a married man a Mamzer?

Rabbi Yossi Turk: no

Raymond: so what exactly is a mamzer?

Rabbi Yossi Turk: a married women who has a child from another jewish man [Ed. note: or a child who is born of an incestous relationship]

Raymond: i see, so then this child from a single woman and a married man does not have to marry another mamzer or a convert then?

Rabbi Yossi Turk: correct

Raymond: and he's free to marry any normal Jewish girl? there are no rules on a child from a single woman and a married man?

Rabbi Yossi Turk: correct

Raymond: ive been worried all this time.

Raymond: my parnets were not married to each other... and my father was married

Raymond: and i was afraid that made me a mamzer and that i couldnt marry other than a mamzer or a convert

Raymond: but how will this at all effect me when i want to marry

Rabbi Yossi Turk: if all is as you say, then according to Halachah you have no problem

Raymond: it is. i just wondered if they would marry me off if my parents did not have a Jewish marriage

Rabbi Yossi Turk: yes

Raymond: ok, sounds good. you put me at ease. thank you Rabbi. Zie Gazunt
